In the rapidly evolving and increasingly competitive world of IT, providing proof of your experience, ability and breadth of knowledge could make all the difference in helping you to take the next step forward in your career.

Employers, recruiters and clients are actively searching for something extra from their candidates: a mark of integrity and dedication to the industry.

At this event, Mike Chad will talk about professional development and will explain about the development of SFIA, the Skills Framework for the Information Age (www.sfia.org.uk).

All members irrespective of grade are recommended to follow these CPD cycle steps:

A typical CPD cycle is carried out on a quarterly basis:

  • Plan the activities, indicating both personal and professional goals to achieve enhanced performance. This should include SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results based, Timely) objective setting.
  • Reviewing actions over the specified period of time and monitoring progression toward achieving objectives.
  • Evaluating outcomes, results and achievements - identifying the additional benefits to the individual and the employer.
  • Reflecting on the whole experience to identify learning points (both positive and negative) in readiness for the next cycle.

Mike Chad studied Electrical Engineering, and pursued an interest in computers which quickly led him into Systems Analysis, firstly with Rolls Royce, then with a software house, and hardware manufacturer. He subsequently spent 26 years with a Consultancy company, and gained a broad spread of experience working in both public and private sectors.

Mike has developed and presented many training programmes, mainly in Business Analysis, Project Management, and associated disciplines. He has been a BCS Member since student days, and actively involved in Professional development since 1990. He contributed to development of the Industry Structure Model (ISM), and later the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) and SFIAplus, and has been one of the main architects of SFIA version 4.

Mike is currently chairman of BCS Membership committee, and a member of the working party which  reviewed the definition of CITP.

Other events…

Our events are usually held on a Thursday evening. We normally start at 7pm in the Wolfson Theatre in the Queen Mother Building, but why not come along at 6.30pm for pre-talk networking in The Street? (...by the way, that 'The Street' is the communal area within QMB, we won't be congregating somewhere outside!)

Our meetings are open to the public, and non-members are very welcome to attend.

Branch meetings qualify for BCS CPD credit.
